This is a standard distance approach to deform an object based on distance to another object. It uses minpos() to get the closest position.

This is fast, but not always accurate, as you can see, since it creates the effect also inside of the rock. A slower, but more accurate approach can be found here: www.hdbp.io/NsNA4yP2
